My fussy one year old boys are always a challenge to feed. Making the transition from the baby cereal to solid foods is always a trying experience. This dish is good as you can mash it to the consistency your baby likes. My boys like it really soft so I mash the porridge really well, or if Im in a hurry, I just put it in the blender for a quick whisk.This dish is fast and easy to make.

Ingredients
{Enough for one serving for twins}
1/2 cup long grained rice. (I use Basmati)
1/3 cup Yellow lentils (Toor or Arhar Dal) or split mung beans (split moong dal)
2 cups water.
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (Haldi)
Pinch of asafoetida (Hing)
Salt to taste
2 tsps butter or ghee.
3 drops of lemon juice
Coriander to garnish. (optional)
Method
Mix the rice and lentils and soak in warm water for at least 15 minutes. If you are using the mung beans , soak in warm water for at least half and hour. Rinse well.
Add 2 cups of water, salt and turmeric powder and put in pressure cooker. After 3 whistles, lower the flame and simmer for 15 minutes. Let the pressure cooker stand till it has cooled down before you open it.
Remove from cooker and mash the porridge according to the consistency you want. You can add more water if it is too thick. Add the butter or ghee and the Asafoetida. Mix well. Add the lemon juice and coriander leaves.
Thats it! A healthy, yummy way to feed your baby lentils. My boys love this dish and eat it without a fuss!
If you do not have a pressure cooker, you can cook this on a stove top in a heavy bottomed pan. Stir it occasionally and add water as needed to cook the lentils. Check to make sure the lentils are soft and thoroughly cooked. You may need more water if you are cooking the porridge on a stove top.
